Mugello never shies away from delivering the good; this year was no different. Drama began even when the lights went off as a distracted Marc Marquez, thinking of all the tax forms he had to fill out and the rising tensions, fell prey to riders behind on the opening lap. (Struggle is real!) As the permanent resident of ‘IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO MARQUEZ BROTHERS, I GET IN’, Bagnaia grabbed the lead, Alex Marquez following close behind. Further back, Brad Binder fell after contact with Fabio Di Giannantonio. Marc, now, having resolved his home loan issues, got to pace with the grid and made his way to his brother. The last few laps were the spiciest as we saw three wide into turn 1, getting their elbows out. Hell broke loose on the last 4 laps with Marquez brothers battling for the top while Vinales closed in on Bagnaia, but the chequered flag greeted the usual suspects with Marc winning the sprint ahead of Alex and Bagnaia.

The battle we all hoped for finally came to life in the Sunday Showdown at Mugello as the top 3 of the championship table go head to head and have a proper battle in the mud! It started almost as a DRAG RACE between Marc Marquez and Bagnaia towards San Donato. Lap 2 was no less as it continued the battle between the three, getting every fan to the extreme edge of their seat. This front-runner battle continued lap after lap with each making an explosive move on the other, falling and recovering. Fans were wrong to expect this showdown at the front to carry the entire race because the battle for P4 was equally exciting. Vinales couldn’t catch a break this weekend as he was taken out by Morbidelli. The stellar battle ended with Marquez brothers claiming the top 2 spots on the podium, with Di Giannantonio making his way up to the last step of the podium. Mugello provided a story of triumph, heartbreak and above all, a fierce battle for every last spot on the grid.

The field was set to deliver with Dennis Andretti, Taylor Bernard and Nyck De Vries leading the pack to what would be absolute carnage and chaos all the way to the last lap. Entertainment began with Bernard getting greedy for attack mode in turn 13 and paying for it with a sweet touch of the wall as he made his way through. (Classic representation of making a move on your crush and getting blocked straight up.) Nyck De Vries, on the other hand, awakened the Red Bull driver within him as he destroyed Dennis Andretti’s front wing in an unsuccessful attempt to pass and, in a classic Red Bull fashion, couldn’t complete the race at the end and had to DNF. (Don’t finish and Don’t Let Others Finish.) De Vries’ incident gave way to Ticktum and Mortara to fight between themselves until the chequered flag, dodging the full-course yellow as frequently as Mumbai’s potholes. Ticktum kept his cool, following the racing line and keeping Mortara at bay until the end to come home to be the newest race winner in the 2025 E-prix campaign.

Nine out of ten people will agree that George Russell is in the form of his life! (One is a Max Verstappen fan.) He has been sneaking onto the podium like the Uncle on the Mumbai local. He has been squeezing constant performance from that unreliable Mercedes and has found himself challenging in the tier 1 of current racing drivers. His astonishing pole lap and win in Canada was the last nail in the coffin, and the question that resonates even louder is, ‘WHY STILL NO CONTRACT?’ Toto gotta be an absolute fan of  ̶M̶a̶x̶ George and must be desperate to sign a long-term contract with  ̶M̶a̶x̶  George as soon as possible, as  ̶M̶a̶x̶  George alongside Kimi will be THE DREAM LINE-UP for Toto. People anticipate that Mercedes and George are in no rush to sign a contract, given the limited options both of them have. (When you don’t worry about your partner breaking-up wth you because WHERE WILL THEY EVEN GO?) George has made his intentions clear to stick with Mercedes, and fans anticipate a Silverstone announcement for his extended contract as the Mercedes team leader.

We now certainly regret being the forerunners of the Perez eviction campaign this time last year. No one other than Toto Wolff seemed to believe Perez’s allegation about the car being bad, as none others had it printed out. The car seemed to perform miracles under Max Verstappen, and it still does, but the second car finds itself battling at the back end of the grid time and time again. It is a surreal fact that without Max Verstappen, the team would sit dead last in the constructors' championship. The fact is a mere representation of how the team is functioning at this point, as they have the other car collecting real-life ‘SIM’ data, helping them roll the dice on strategy calls for Max higher up the grid. Red Bull has been right in putting all their eggs in Verstappen’s basket, but the mutual fund has come to maturity, and there hasn’t been another ‘Max Verstappen’ for Red Bull and the question of WHAT AFTER MAX lurks over the entire team.

Three riders head-to-head? Unexpected crashes? Unbelievable comebacks? If the season so far hasn’t convinced about the uncertainty this season holds then I don’t even know what can! Nothing is out of the frame anymore and there are no longer any safe bets or any ‘WILD’ bets.
