WEEKEND BUILD-UP!

Motorsport racing returns for its penultimate showdown at the Qatar Grand Prix, where drivers will face intense physical demands. Cooler weather provides relief compared to last year’s challenges. FP1 offered us a thrilling preview of the weekend, with Charles Leclerc topping the charts. The stage was set for an epic due. While one championship is decided, another is still up for grabs, with McLaren and Ferrari battling for glory in a thrilling finale.

SPRINT DAY!

The action heated up at the Losail International Circuit for Sprint Qualifying. We were blessed to witness Sergio Pérez’s streak of shock eliminations continued (now shifting the shock factor to him making it to Q3, brilliant move). No surprised that the crowd made no big deal of it as they too are used to it now. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen struggled with his car’s setup, while Lando Norris seized pole position. George Russell split the McLarens, who aim to carry their Vegas momentum forward.

Piastri swiftly overtook Russell as Norris led the pack, thrilling fans and setting McLaren up for a strategic masterclass. Using Norris’ DRS, reminiscent of Sainz’s tactic, they kept Oscar out of George’s reach. Red Bull struggled, with Max falling behind a Haas and Sergio turning his pitlane start into a data-gathering session. In a bold gesture, Norris slowed at the final corner, handing Oscar the lead as a nod to Brazil, earning the loudest cheers. The podium was completed by Norris and Russell.

QUALI DAY!

Sprint weekends leave no room for rest, as drivers must quickly move past previous results and refocus for the main qualifying session. Great for us fans, though, as we eagerly awaited the action to heat up again. The traditional racing circuit delivered no major surprises in qualifying (yes, even Pérez made it through). The Saubers put in a solid effort, securing P12 and P13—well-positioned to grab points if chaos unfolds ahead (though maybe not even then).

Red Bull delivered a remarkable turnaround (Perez finally coming to some use). Ferrari couldn’t replicate their earlier pace and settled into the midfield of the top 10, while McLaren also fell short of outright dominance. In the end, Max Verstappen claimed pole with characteristic ease, followed by George Russell in the Mercedes and Lando Norris in the McLaren.

RACE DAY!

It was the day of the final showdown. Max Verstappen was handed down a one place penalty (contending for the most stupid one in the year). A lot could be decided in this very race with the biggest question lingering in our minds and as well as that of the fully filled grand stand around us- CAN McLAREN DO IT TONIGHT?

The race unfolded much as we expected, with Verstappen reclaiming the lead early accompanied by the loudest of cheers and multiple safety cars following incidents. However, the FIA arguably stole the spotlight—not for good reasons. From ignoring a stray mirror on the main straight , even visible to us (as if expecting it to walk itself off) to dishing out heavy-handed penalties, their chaotic handling turned a potential easy going race into full-blown farce. Widely criticized as an outright clown show, the management certainly earned its share of unflattering accolades.

Lando Norris put up a fierce fight against Verstappen at the front but failed to slow under double yellows—a mistake promptly flagged to the authorities by Max. This earned Norris a harsh 10-second stop-and-go penalty, effectively a race-ending blow that dropped him out of contention. Zhou impressed with a solid drive to P8, while Gasly excelled to secure P5. At the top, it was Max Verstappen claiming victory yet again, joined on the podium by Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri, finally giving us the opportunity to hear the most heard Dutch anthem live on the track!

BREAKING!

Breaking news this weekend: Alpine has announced a surprise driver swap, replacing Esteban Ocon with Jack Doohan for the season finale. Speculation is rife, with reasons ranging from the team's desire for stronger performances on both sides to Ocon initiating the change to participate in Haas's post-season test. However, the true motive remains unclear. Qatar now stands as Ocon's final race with the French team, a partnership that delivered several podiums and their sole victory to date.
