Racing returned to the high-altitude circuit of Mexico for the second leg of this triple-header, a good night sleep? WHAT GOOD NIGHT SLEEP? With fans gathering to witness the thrilling wheel-to-wheel action. The pinnacle of motorsport set the stage for an exhilarating showdown on Mexico's unique and challenging layout.

Fresh from a 1-2 finish in Austin, Ferrari looked set to keep their momentum, with Sainz leading their strong pace. Limited insights emerged from FP2’s tire testing, but FP1 brought excitement as five rookies hit the track, adding extra spark to Mexico’s atmosphere.

Max Verstappen had a rough start to the weekend, plagued by engine issues that kept him from finding the right feel in his car. Meanwhile, Mercedes faced an early setback with a spin but steadily picked up the pace as the sessions progressed.

After three sessions on track, the anticipation remained high over who would clinch the top spot for Sunday’s main race. Once again, qualifying delivered, starting with an intense Q1 that saw a surprising exit for Oscar Piastri, breaking his streak of Q3 appearances. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez’s early elimination was less of a shock, setting him up for a challenging weekend in front of his home crowd.

Lando Norris electrified the crowd in Q1 and Q2, but Carlos Sainz found extra pace in the final session to secure pole. He was followed by Max Verstappen and Norris, setting the stage for a thrilling race start, with the long run to Turn 1 promising tactical maneuvering through slipstreams.

This season has seen its share of nail-biting race starts, but none quite like Mexico’s, where the critical Turn 1 could make or break the entire race. Max Verstappen got a strong launch, seizing the lead by Turn 1. But drama quickly followed, as Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon tangled, spinning out and ending their races early. The incident brought out the safety car, setting the stage for an intense restart once the track was clear.

No 2024 race is complete without a fierce battle between the championship contenders, and Mexico was no exception. Max Verstappen defended his position relentlessly but pushed too far, receiving two 10-second penalties—one for forcing Lando Norris wide at Turn 4 and another through the S-turns. These penalties diminished his pace advantage, and despite a strong recovery, he finished in P4.

After intense battles, with Hamilton prevailing over the Silver Arrows duel and Lando claiming P2 after Leclerc lost control on the final turn, we finally saw Carlos Sainz’s spectacular drive rewarded with victory. It felt like a shared triumph with Carlos, who has openly expressed his desire for a final win with Ferrari to cap off his journey on a high.
